The homeless residents receiving services at Volunteers of America Chesapeake’s Residential Program Center in Arlington were treated to a performance by the nationally-recognized youth hula dancing group, The ‘Ōpio of Nā Wai Ola Hula Performance and Leadership Team earlier this week. Residents were entertained by these young performers as they showcased the Hawaiian art of the hula and spread the spirit of aloha.

The award-winning dance troop visited the Center as part of its “Spread a Little Aloha” tour, which aims to boost the spirits and make a positive impact on select audiences across the country. The residents not only enjoyed the dance performance as spectators, but some joined in with hopes of learning the unique dance.

Volunteers of America Chesapeake’s Residential Program Center provides three crucial services—non-medical detoxification, substance abuse recovery, and homeless services for single adults—all under one roof. Since its inception in 1994, Volunteers of America Chesapeake’s Residential Program Center is the only 24-hour program of this caliber in Arlington County.
