Update 1:41 a.m.: When Vienna Patch reader Kayla N. Sharpe woke up just after 1 a.m., she thought it was because of the flight exercises NORAD told residents it would be conducting Wednesday night.
But what woke her was another aftershock, USGS reported, measuring 4.5 on the Richter scale.
Other readers from across Northern Virginia and into Maryland wrote in on Facebook to share they had felt it too.

- Gary Loewenthal Felt it in Falls Church. Woke up the humans; didn't see any reactions from the animals (cat and rabbit).

Original: Days after a 5.8 magnitude earthquake shook the East Coast, a fifth aftershock hit Virginia.
A 4.5 magnitude aftershock occurred around 1:07 a.m. Thursday, according to the United States Geological Survey.
Four other aftershocks occurred within hours of the Tuesday afternoon earthquake: a 2.8 at 2:46 p.m., a 2.2 at 3:20 p.m., and a 4.2 at 8:04 p.m. that day, and a 3.4 at 12:45 a.m. Wednesday morning.
All five aftershocks, as well as the initial earthquake, occurred near Mineral — about 35 miles northwest of Richmond and 84 miles southwest of Washington, D.C.
This article has been corrected to show this is the fifth aftershock since Tuesday's earthquake.

Felt nothing in Herndon near the airport. Was is my living room, same place I was for first one and nothing this time. No strange actions by pets, nothing shook on the walls. We are accustomed to aircraft vibrations here but nothing from the ground.

Good news folks, in the New Madrid quakes in 1811/12, the most destructive quake happened two months after the first....
But their fault line is much worse than the small one in VA...so I wouldn't worry about that here. Just some fun trivia for you.

I felt it also, and the one the night before. My whole room started to shake, my nephew in the basement said the couch was shaking, It started small and got worse shaking my bed, my lamp etc. and I was scared to death that it would be like the day before. I prayed to God over and over again and it stopped. Although I didn't know it had stopped because my entire body was shaking so bad I thought I was still feeling the aftershock. No more earthquakes!

I felt it in Reston, but it was small and didn't last long. I only noticed it because I was still awake.

I keep pots of the tropical flower the Angel's Trumpet in the yard from April until first frost. They've been falling over all week. I finally figured out the aftershocks are tossing them.
